Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

Well almost 3 years since my last Post and it still isn't Engineered. In the meantime we've had Covid lockdowns, sold 2 house, purchased another, re-built a 14x17 metre shed and built a new 12x7 shed and now are trying to get 6 acres under control. The car has progressed to the point it is now drive...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

Thanks Brayden I'll try it that way. The task moves along. The car has been completely rewired using the Nissan N15 loom combined with an N14 loom so it has been a total headf--k!  I think I've soldered around 200 joins in wiring, what with making things longer and shorter and just moving things aro...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

This is what it looks like as of today. https://i.postimg.cc/CM2vVM2B/IMG_0763.jpg The engine is in and clears everything by at least 15mm! The wiring is coming along but doing my head in. Still have a  heap of stuff to do but every day it looks more like it will actually work. The engine will have ...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

I haven't kept the Forum up to date on what we did. The car now has an SR20DE engine, transmission and front suspension out of an N14 Nissan. The engine and transmission fits (sort of) and puts out 105KW. It's been major surgery but it now looks like it will all fit. I have it that the bonnet closes...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

OK. Update time. The replacement motor is a dud.  Blowing smoke and running like crap.  I think it's fouling plugs. After a lot of searching we've come down to the 1.6litre Hyundai Accent or Getz engine and trans. 78kw so only a little over 4 times the power of the original Boy. You can buy a decent...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

Sorry the images have departed. I'll try and get them back up. In the last week I'v replaced the Daewoo engine with a spare we had. The original engine was an oil burner and the trans had dodgy synchros on second. We're now looking at fitting a 1600cc Suzuki Ma engine.  We just need to do some measu...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy

A bit of an update. The Matiz engine died during the week. Very smokey and runs like crap. and fouling number 1 cylinder so it's toast We have a spare Matiz engine and trans we will fit as a short term and look into something with more grunt. The car stops and handles very well (a legacy of the Mati...

Re: Aftermarket Seats??

The seat base is 520mm and the back is 510mm wide.

The seat back clears the window by 10-15mm and there's around 125mm between the seats.

Re: Scott's f8c conversion

Making the intake clear the bonnet begins with getting the engine in the right location, being as low as possible. We have our's dropped around 30mm on the engine mounts.  Because we used the whole Matiz front end it was quite easy to lower the mounts as against locating and lowering the mounts. Onc...

Re: Scott's f8c conversion

The Matiz alternator is on the firewall side from the factory.  Why would your's have been on the front of the engine?  That's where the air-conditioning compressor usually is. You can get the engine to sit low enough that chopping off the alloy protrusion on the top of the T/b lets the bonnet shut ...

Re: Possible Valve Stem Seal Leak?

Another option to keep the valves in place is to fill the cylinder with string/small rope and wind it up to TDC, or as close as it will go.  This will stop the valve dropping.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Possible Valve Stem Seal Leak?

I would agree with your diagnosis.

Whilst replacing the seals is easy, you could also have worn valve guides as they should contain oil passage to an extent..

At least replacing valve step seals is cheap and fairly easy (no head off) so I would give it a go first.

Re: Alto Automatic to manual using Matiz parts

I'd recommend the Matiz route. It isn't all that hard to swap the whole lot in. You will need engine/trans, shifter, all the front end wiring, the exhaust system and axles. I thin it would be possible to swap in the Matiz front knuckles and struts. We got it all under the front of Laclan's MB but di...
