Re: water pump blues,

Hi mate. Don't get disheartened, it's great that you had a go, and learned a lot along the way. Are you certain it's the timing ? Does the engine 'kick' or just turn over and over and not fire? Did you connect the coil lead? Got fuel in the tank? Lots of things to consider, when a car wont start. An...

Re: starting woes

Make sure the gap on the points is around 0.018 - 0.022", clean the 3 electrodes inside the cap, if they are no longer nice and flat, grab another cap when you can afford it, as they get corroded, this increases the distance between the rotor arm and cap. Make sure end of rotor is nice and clea...

Re: starting woes

All good advice :) . When I bought my Hatch (in about 5 boxes), I had trouble with the fuel system, too. Not to say this is your problem, but, I blew out the fuel lines with compressed air, drained tank etc. Fitted new cap/rotor/points and HT leads. Are the points set to correct gap? Any build-up on...

Re: Brake booster?

Agreed. The booster is just there so you don't have to push as hard on the pedal. Fully adjusted drums should be good enough for the little Suzi's.

Re: Gearstick Lever Components

I've found that 95% of all SS40's at the wreckers have the standard gearstick coupling. (circled) as CHR15 N stated, rubber bushes wear out.(2 each end)

Re: Gearstick Lever Components

Depends on the gearbox. I had trouble with mine, too. Found an elderly gentleman with a shipload of manuals from the '80's. He let me photograph this pic..... No 6 is the spring.

Re: HEATIN UP

A 6 cyl can be used, with slight mods to the circuit. Cant remember how to do it, though. I'm stoopid with electronical stuff. Something like bridging a diode, or getting a chrome Kanoota valve... :-o

I'll check with a bud, of mine, and get back to ya. :NFI:

Re: HEATIN UP

Sounds like you have air in your cooling system. When the thermostat opens to allow coolant from engine block to rad, there isn't enough of it. You fill your rad when cold, thermostat closed, so no coolant gets to the block, until 'highway' temp is reached. As stated, a lot depends on the temp setti...

Re: DIY fuel tank cleaning/de rust for cheap

Another old school remedy, put the exhaust from your car into the tank, and start engine. Removes all oxygen from tank, replacing it with carbon monoxide etc. No oxy....no boom !

Re: Gear shift selector adjustments??

You got it...

Adjust the shifter plate, under the floorpan. It describes it in the manual. Something like forward, if you cant get 1st and 2nd, or backwards if you have trouble getting 3rd and 4th.

Had an issue with mine, and this cleared it up. :thumbup1:
