Re: Maximum size engine you can swap in.
Angle grinder in one hand and the MIG in the other. Worked last time. If you have a look at the Thread Lachlan's MB it explains what you can get away with in cutting a car up without going ICV. There's more misinformation out there on what you can and can't do it's a joke. The MB was my 6th car I'v...

Re: Maximum size engine you can swap in.
I only stumbled on it as I'd forgotten the formula so went and started reading. When I read the NA exemption I couldn't get the paperwork out for the MB fast enough. If I did another it would be the same cut off the front and use the donor engines front end. I'd also use the same Engineer. Biggest p...

Maximum size engine you can swap in.
I think we've all read the regulations on the maximum engine size we can use under table LA1 of the VSB's. I also think we've failed to read the paragraph right before the table in the VSB. I've come to conclusion that the MB isn't restricted in what size engine you can fit, other than physically. T...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy
Arklan,
You inspired it!
So far the only problem we've encountered is the low beam headlights are having a rest so I need to look into it.
The little car probably goes as well as your's which is much better than a stock one.

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy
Just some random photos of the construction. Trying to vinyl wrap the dash. An absolute disaster! https://s26.postimg.org/p4nkddm55/IMG_0295.jpg A shot of the diffuser we built out of the Matiz rear bumper. There are 9 separate pieces in the diffuser. https://s26.postimg.org/k1be2qp5l/IMG_0406.jpg...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy
The Engineer we use is an old Client of our's from when we ran a motor Insurance Company.
We use him as he thinks like we do.

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy
Thanks Brayden, it is a bit out of left field. The fuel system gave us the most heartache of all the things we had to deal with. We tried to use the Matiz fuel tank but it just wasn’t going to fit. We needed to use the Matiz fuel pump, gauge and FPR (all contained in one unit) for everything to ...

Re: Lachlan's MightyBoy
A bit more of the story. The whole MightyBoy plenum assembly for the heating/fresh air was junked, leaving just the upper skin of the scuttle intact. We made up a new bottom for the scuttle to fill in between the bottom of the windscreen and the Matiz scuttle so we still had fresh air entering the ...

Lachlan's MightyBoy
My youngest son Lachlan wanted a MightyBoy to play with. He has an Mitsubishi Evo Vii and a bike so this is just atoy. He found one on Facebook for $300.00. This was January 2017. The car came almost completely dismantled with plenty of rust and no engine, gearbox, radiator or driveshafts. What t...

Re: Mitch's build v1
Can you legally street drive it?
With it being swapped to RWD I would think it would become an ICV and they are scary hard to register.
Do you plan on trying for Engineering or just keep it registered and drive on?

Re: new mighty boy
Motorcycle engine'd cars aren't allowed in Australia. Bike engines don't meet car emissions. I agree making the car wider to allow the use of existing parts from small light cars is the way forward. I think making a kit to convert an Ignis into a ute would be the most practical/economical way of cr...

Re: new mighty boy
If you did all the work yourself and had it professionally painted and then Engineered on standard wheels I estimate you would be looking at $10,000-12,000.
To build a new MightyBoy in glass and Rego the first vehicle would cost $125,000 (estimate) if you were paying to have it done.

Re: new mighty boy
The Ignis Ute does look the goods. My Late Father used to build camper vans with fibreglass roofs. He used JWF Fibreglass to make them. Sam Johnson is well known for his Milano GT and GT2 and even 30 years ago these bodies were stupidly expensive to make. IF you could get someone to build them at ...

Re: new mighty boy
Great idea, but there is always a "but"! The vehicle would be an ICV and the engineering cost on an ICV is prohibitive. I have an ICV I built 5 years ago and the Engineering cost $9,000.00. The RMS here inspected it (spent 13 manhours on it) before signing off on it and they told me less t...
