FS: F8b Carby {VIC}
Hey everyone, In my search of my parts boxes I've come across a F8b carby that I removed from a 87 F8b powered Alto Auto. I don't really require it, so I'll offer it up for sale here. Should be a good runner but I would highly recommend a kit be put thru it. If you need a kit I should be able to get...

Re: I got towed :(
mighty boy's usually ground thru the rocker cover to the top of the rad support. It's not a very good ground. The engine should also have an 8 gauge factory grounding wire from the gearbox to the shell via the battery. That they should, but I'm yet to see one that is missing lol. It's always a poss...

Re: I got towed :(
I've had trouble with my engine ground in the past, mighty boy's usually ground thru the rocker cover to the top of the rad support. It's not a very good ground. With a poor ground the ignition system doesn't function properly.

Re: I got towed :(
It does look a bit funny on the truck, however, I bet mine looked funnier getting towed down the hume hwy by another mighty boy!
In regards tot he 2ndard on the carby, as suggested it can be converted to mechanical secondary, or you could source another diaphragm to fix it.

Re: Intake manifolds - carby type
LOL! Yeah it looks good, and a good reference, thanks for putting that up there Brayden. I'm no closer to having my boy running just yet tho. At least I know I should remove a lot of the vac hoses that were in my engine bay. lol. Being a manual, almost none are required, aside the dizzy advance. Che...

Re: Distributor solution for electronic ignition
Almost, the advance curve is different, otherwise they are the same. Part numbers are different.mental wrote:Is the f5a dizzy is the same as the f8b. Have a spare f5a one at home that i would like to convert to elec ignition if it can be used on an f8b

Re: Distributor solution for electronic ignition
Only trouble I see with the crane setup is that there is no info on it suiting 3cyl engines. I take it there is another set of small parts to fit inside the dizzy to suit 3cyl operation?

Re: F8b Exhaust manifold preEGR
Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I require one of the following... A NON EGR type exhaust manifold - ie no EGR hole. OR a Bung/bolt to block it off. I don't want to weld the hole up. If anyone knows the size of the thread I could probably get a bung/bolt to plug it up. Trouble is I think the EGR in...

Re: F8b Exhaust manifold preEGR
Bump - still very much in need, or hell, even a F8b EGR carby manifold, not fussed if it's auto or manual, but it can't be cracked at all lol.

Re: Intake manifolds - carby type
Thought as much. I had a look over your diagram you have posted up, and worked out that I also have 1 auto F8b carby in my pile of carbies(about 6 or so lol). I pulled it off because it would randomly idle too high, now I know that the vac hoses were messed up & that was causing the idle switch ...

Re: Intake manifolds - carby type
Fuel vapor's, hrmm. I thought the canister was hooked to a port on the side of the carby. Never seen a F5 or F8 with a "smog pump" on it to require ports in the head like that, sort of like the holdens in the early 80's. I might take another look at my F5a in the shed, see if I can see whe...

Re: Intake manifolds - carby type
The EGR port sits in the base of the manifold under the carby, if you remove a carby & look down at the back of the bottom of the manifold you can see the EGR hole. If they have been used without leaks before, I think I need to take the head off again & take it back for a re-test. Something ...

F8b Exhaust manifold preEGR
Hey everyone, I'm in need of a pre-EGR exhaust manifold for my F8b. Either that or a set of extractors for the moment(going down the turbo road later). Does anyone have a manifold that I can buy? It must not have the EGR fitting on it. I'm in Wyndham Vale, but will travel around Melb, Geelong & ...
