Interesting, look like it's straight out of the mid 80's!

$6077 at current exchange rates for the base model.

Somewhere in some fine print there is mention of an F8D Five Speed? That would make for a nice spruce up to any MB/Hatch.
If only more info was available on the site. Even a new F8B motor would be awsome.

India is just about the biggest market for Suzuki outside of Japan.

Sold by Maruti, the car in the link is mechanically the same as the Alto we had here in the late 80's.
4 speed manual with a carby F8B - they don't exactly put a high priority on refinement in India. Agricultural does the job just fine. ;)

No carby F8B is sold in India currently, we have gone the injection way. And yes here people aint that choosy and NVH levels or technology is only secondary. Many people here in India still have two wheelers as their only mode of personal transportation. And many don't care what sort of technology goes into their first car or how well it rides as long as it goes better than their two wheelers. And Maruti 800 is the most affordable car with very low running costs. And the company keeps it that way.

We had a 5 speed 12valve injected 800 now they have disontinued it coz the 800 sale was cutting into the Alto sale which had the same motr & gearbox. There was a 1.1 liter Alto but the company discontinued it becoz it was cutting into the 1 liter Zen territory. This is the problem when a company has different models of the same car on sale dating back from the 80s to the 90s.

Here's a list of Altos sol here in India:

Maruti 800 - Original Alto, Injected 6 valve motor based on F8B (not F8C), 4 speed box, first launched in 1987 still on sale thanks to cosmetic updations.

Maruti Zen - A newer Alto, injected 4cy 16valvel all aluminum 1 liter engine, lanched here somewhere in the early 90s, still selling coz of the lovely engine & peppy performance.

Maruti Alto - Newest Alto, replaced the earlier Alto (the Zen) in Europe, sold here with the same motor as of the Maruti 800 but with a 12valve head and 5 speed box. There was a 1.1 lite 16valve model on sale earlier but now discontinued.

Waon R- Not an alto, but has the 16valve 1.1 liter engine from the discontinued Alto 1.1.

Confusing aint it?

Well i can tell you that the engine from the Marut 800's or the Alto will bolt in straight into your MightyBoys, and doin a Injected conversion with this motor will be a hell lot of easier than goin with the matiz conversion. Gettin spares for my 84 hatch motor is also easy as we still get genuine F8B engine parts here. Genuine spares are cheap :)

Theres a deal goin on at the Maruti dealers here, they'll replace the worn cylinder block & pistons with a new block & pistons for 10,000 Rupees, that's around 296AUD. It's called the engine transplant offer, they won't include the head i guess.
