G'day

I travel a lot of dirt roads and so get dust and things in the air filter. They are expensive to replace and so I have a solution to extend its life.
I have made a prefilter out of a mesh stove exhaust fan filter. I folded it so that it was 4 layers thick and cut it to be the same length of the inside of the filter box and as wide as the outside width of the filter. I sit it in the filter box with the edge nearest the front pushed down and the rear edge sitting just above the intake. I give a liberal cover of filter spray. I clean it every month or after a trip. It definitely keeps the main filter clean for longer.
