Engines.

Fri Feb 10, 2017 3:50 pm

Hey team. Looking into getting a cappo to go with my mighty boy. Can't find anywhere on TMR the equation for figuring out Max engine sizes for both na and boosted. Any help is much appreciated thanks.

Vehicle weight x 3.0 for N/A and 2.5 for turbo. The new NCOP is pretty generous.

Ah thank you. Went around in circles for an hour trying to find that :P so that should be about 1.8L turbo and 2.2 n/a ?

It goes on curb weight, not gross mass
An MB is 530kg, which means 1325cc turbo and 1590cc N/A.

Double check there isn't a 800kg limit on engine capacity.

I know in NSW a vehicle under 800kg can't use the full allowance.

The info above (3x N/A and 2.5x forced induction) is for cars under 800kg.
The other categories in the NCOP are 800-1100kg and 1100kg+

Apologies for a bit of a dead topic revival.

Do you think they would allow a minor uppage on cc allow a 12a rotary ? na of course.  I know it won't get turbo approval. Or would that be engineer specific ?

Thanks.

I did a rotary swap into an MGB many years ago and the problem with Rotors is the eccentric shaft is in the middle of the engine rather than down low like most crankshafts.

This means the bottom of the engine sits much lower than a normal engine.

To overcome this I had to raise the transmission so the engine's sump wouldn't drag on the ground.

I would imagine in a front wheel drive car with short driveshafts this would be a nightmare to overcome.

In that case you would still end up with the transmission up under your armpit.

Rules are rules, unless you find an engineer willing to fudge the paperwork.
