Did the MB come standard with a catalitic converter?
I cant see why it would given the budget nature of the car (commercial type vehicles dont require them as far as I'm aware)
I must say I dont really know the difference between the looks of a catalitic converter & resonators etc, so I wouldn't know if mine had one?...

A catalytic converter is vastly different to a resonator in appearance. Kinda looks like a small muffler wearing a heat shield:
As Colin said, the MB engine is too small to necessitate a cat converter. I know that anything below 850cc and older than 1996 is not required by law in NSW/ACT to have one. I went through that with my engineering cert.
