I've just taken the rear shocks off the MB to give them a bit of a clean up only to find one has busted a seal and is offering only about half the rebound and compression dampning as the other one.
i took the rear shocks off the donor hatch800 and both are good except they are slightly larger in diametre (i'm assuming to accomodate the stiffer 3 leaf springs) and about 15-20mm longer which gives 15-20mm less stroke as would reach stops before mb shorter ones.
is this a problem or will the rubber stopper on the leaf hit the frame well before the shocks shorter stroke comes into play???? (can't test myself as the mb is on it's side with everything removed ready for respray)
also they offer a bit more dampning than the mb ones as they are different manufacture and the hatch shocks are about 3 years older than the MB ones.

Odd... The original shock units I pulled from my MB years ago were KYB.
But to answer your question, you can interchange them without worry. I have been using new shocks bought using a Hatch part number for years and they are still working perfectly.
Bear in mind if you don't want to use second hand parts that you can buy a set of cheap shocks for as little as about $75 a pair.

cheers braydon....just using them for now. want to get it on the road first then do some proper upgrades once rego'd
brokenshire can't test the stops of the suspension as no way to compress the springs when on it's side. just wanted to know if the leaf stops hit before the hatch shock reaches it's end of travel.

So, is this the part number I need to give someone at a parts store because they can't seem to find a listing for KYB or Monroe and no one wants to find the Gabriels for me!!!! Honestly, I thought the rear shocks would cause me the least hassle!!!ike849 wrote:

Gabriel can be ordered through SuperCheap, they should have the order book on hand. Ditto for Monroe - I've ordered both types from SCA.
Finding KYB will be more difficult.

I had a look on the Monroe website and also found this one the redlinegti forum:

and this:

I don't suppose you have the part number or remember if this is the one because Monroe had no listing for a Suzuki Hatch in their book

I'll see what I can find, hopefully I can locate my receipt and it has the part number on it!
The part number should be the same for Hatch/Carry/and SA310 Swifts.

OK, thanks for that
I just found this on the Monroe website after I did a search for Suzuki Swift.

Rear Original Gas Shock Absorber - 23447 - Standard, Lowered, Raised

I wouldn't take the listing as gospel. Parts manufacturers have a habit of getting things wrong. If in doubt, ask for measurements, or at least make sure the parts can be returned if they're not correct.

I remembered last night why you wouldn't be able to find Gabriel listings - because AC Delco now import and rebrand their products.
To make your day, I have the new part number for you: GS137 - the same part number for Hatch and Carry/Supercarry.
Enjoy!
