I always assumed my Alto RSR was a 91 model, because thats what the seller told me...but now I am trying to find some proof of this. If it turns out its an 89 model, then its possible I can get it complianced.

Here is a photo of it:

And this is the plate on the firewall:

There doesnt seem to be any mention of the year of manufacture anywhere.

CL11V and CM11V were 1988-89 (F5B), CN21S and CP21S were 90-91 (F6A).

So unfortunately you're out of luck on that one mate!

Cheers for that - Im guessing the authorities wouldnt know that piece of information though...so would there be any markings on the car anywhere that say what year it was built in? I havent found any so far.

Thanks

The year model marking goes on the compliance plate (which you won't have), that also lists the applicable ADRs.

Trust me though, whoever compliances the vehicle will find out what year model it is. They only have to reference the Japanese manufacturer data sheet to work it out.

That shouldn't be a barrier to getting it passed though. JohnnyB has his '92 Cervo Mode complianced and registered.

perhaps it was a personal import?

Because the only other way to get a car complied and registered that is newer than 89 is to go through a RAWS workshop that can do that particular type of vehicle. And an alto works isnt on this list: http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/sevsindex.htm (to get it added you need a test vehicle, it needs to pass all their requirements, lots of time and money, and you need a workshop willing to do all of this).

Nope, it wasn't a personal import, although it might have had something to do with the date of import. I'll let Johnny confirm, but AFAIK if the vehicle landed in Australia before RAWS started then it should still be okay to compliance it under SEVS.

If that is the case then you'd just need a copy of the customs/import papers.

ah yeh. I know the car was imported about 5 or 6 years ago, but I dont have access to any paperwork at all. Unless Transport SA might have a copy on file.

So at this stage its very unlikely I would be able to get it complied!

There would have to be a record of import somewhere. I'd at least try and track that down before giving up hope. ;)

If all else fails it would make a nice hillclimber!

I have an 1989 Alto works IE up for sale on ebay at the moment for a couple hundred bucks that has import approval but no engine or box. Some creative mixing and matching of the two and possibly you could get things moving.

the only place that would have a copy of the import approval would be DOTARS now called the department of infrastructure they should have a copy BUT we (the customer) and not allowed/entitled to a copy. They will give you a letter with all the cars details and VIN number confirming the info which you can give to the RTA (im my case they told me that I had forged it!)

My Cervo is actually a '90 model (it think) CN21s
