Was just glancing at my engine bay today and was wondering what this part is. It's on the hose that goes from the rocker cover through to the air filter to recirculate, but unless it's some type of big PCV valve I can't work out what it is.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

its the pcv hose and that big box would be the oil/air separator screen

Gotcha. So coming off the "big box" I could just have a small filter so the gases going out of the crankcase aren't going back into my intake?

i havnt had the rocker cover apart myself but im guessing there is some kind of oil/air separator screen or baffle in there, how good it is i dont know. it is always better to run a catch can rather than just a filter so if there is any build up of oil over time it has somewhere to go.

Yeah, thought a catch can might be better but there's so little room. Might just run a JDM mad tyte drift spec one (i.e. a bottle of Aquarius!).

valid point, most catch cans are about half the size of the cylinder head :)
you only need something in proportion to the size of the engine.

Looks a bit like the plate in the top of a SOHC mighty boy rocker cover, designed to keep oil & air separated? The box is probably to make some surface area, as without it there wouldn't be much.......

Cheers
