I have just been offered an early Carry (2 Stroke version looks like a 1975 Suzuki L60 model as it has the 446 cc engine?) that has been in storage for over 20 years. The car itself is complete and in good solid rust-free condition. The motor arrangement is very interesting and different to say the least. The motor is in poor condition and extremely smoky. It was offered to me as a donor car for a second electric vehicle conversion project (http://www.mightyboyev.com being the first project and my every day car).

In many ways this Carry is more suited to conversion as it is rear wheel drive – hence I can get rid of the gearbox/transaxle assembly completely. It is also well designed to accommodate a long range Li-Ion battery pack mostly under the floor.

Where these imported via Suzuki or private imports? And is there an estimate of how many are in OZ? If they are rare and collectable maybe I should reconsider conversion and restore the vehicle to stock? Any views on this??

Does anyone have specifications for this model or similar Carry? I mainly need all the vehicle weights and loading figures to submit my engineering plans for conversion…… any help appreciated.

Cheers

Bruce

I have found this reference:

"Suzuki Carry's were released in Australia in January 1976 with a choice of 450cc [L60V] or 550cc engines [ST20V]. 450cc was dropped in February 1977. In June 1978 the 550cc was replaced with the 800cc [ST80V]. So the earliest this could possibly be is a 1976 model."

Make any sense?

Makes sense to me. Is it worth restoring? Only if you're really enthusiastic about the vehicle, because sadly I don't think it would be more than a slight curiousity to most people. Even though they are pretty rare I wouldn't say they are at all collectable.

Look for a little sticker or plate with ATECO on it, they imported Suzuki's to all states except Qld & possibly NT. As for the date of the vehicle it could easily have been a 1975 build landed &/or sold 1976.
So many delays to getting my MB back in order with 993cc & 5 speed transaxle... neighbor issue gone, donor shell up on rotisserie, new sheds on the way.... another project also..
