Just spoke to the local compliance guy, and he mentioned that i'll need emission data from a locally built car with the same engine, in order to get compliance/rego. The test, IM240 emissions test, is a part of the full emissions test that car manufacturers have to do (which costs $10,000+) and it costs $600.
So now i have to figure out what i can do, if i bite the bullet and get the test done, or find another loophole around this. Ideally if i could find someone locally that has already done the test that'd be fantastic.
Oh, CRAP! Vicroads emission requirements
Best way out of this (or to save enough $) is to just do the 660cc conversion before compliance, saving me having to do the emission controls twice. Also having the cappuccino with the same engine may help with vicroads.

Are you (or at least the compliance guy) sure this is the case for a 15+ year old import?
It certainly isn't in WA.
May pay to check. . . .
Pete in Perth

Vic is the only place that requires it, from what i'm told. I'm going to try and register it without it anyway, see how it goes.

In NSW/ACT if the vehicle is older than 1992 and under 850cc then not only is it exempt from emmisions testing but you don't even need a cat converter. I went through this with my MB getting the F8B engineered.
