I'm just chasing an external mounted tacho for my MB and so far the only one i have come across is an in dash mounted speco 520-03 any info or if anyone has one they would like to part with would be great. $$$

External, as in mounted on the bonnet? Not sure you'll have much luck finding anything that would last.
If you mean external like cup mounted just grab the Speco unit and a universal mounting cup like this:
