Hello!

I've just bought a 1987 Mighty Boy, loving the thing! Just a quick question; what is the setup for the ignition coil? Having a little bit of trouble understanding the schematic that Team Mighty Boy has generously uploaded. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Its a dual pole coil fed 12v direct when cranking and 12v ignition switched with inbuilt resistor on the other pole while running so reduced voltage

As above. There are 3 posts on the standard coil. Earth, +12v and +9v that runs through a ballast resistor. The idea being that the coil gets +12v when you hit the key, then +9v when the engine is running so you don't burn out the points.

Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly. Really appreciate it.

So +12V from the ignition and +9V from the starter motor connection via the ballast resistor? The wiring wasn't particularly good to begin with, so just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Cheers!

No, you want 9v constant from the ignition via the resistor and 12v (on cranking) from the starter.
