Hey there, im chasing a F8B gearbox as mine has a terrible whine in 4th gear (probably thrust bearing).

Its probably simpler to just change the motor than try to service the gearbox.

cheers guys

Whine in 4th gear will likely be a problem with the bearing/layshaft.

Thrust bearing will only make noise with the clutch pedal out. ;)

hey guys,

yeah it only whines in 4th when you have it under load (eg: accerator pressed). if you let the accelerator off it seems to disapear. All the other gears sound fine.

PS. i will take some photos of the re-built MB and post them soon. its custom painted with House of Kolor (pimp my ride & monster garage fans will know) 'Passion Pearl Purple'

I have a F8B gearbox that I certainly am not using. I'm in west Brissy.

Make an offer.

Not always. I've got two 800 boxes here with male speedo drives, same as a 550 box.

I think the only way to know for sure is either to drive with the box installed, or pull it apart and count the number of teeth on the crown wheel.
Oh, and in the case of the 800 boxes I have here, they both have stubby input shafts with no need for a spigot bearing on the flywheel, whereas the 550 boxes I used to have all had a long input shaft with a spigot bearing required.

Sorry i didnt get in touch sooner. Unfortantly the whole motor is going to need to be redone (valves are smoking). I think Im best to grab a complete F8b or DOHC F6A turbo.

for the moment im going to pop my F5A into it and use that for getting around till I can buy or rebuild a F8B.

thanks again
