I was wondering if it was OK to use 98RON premium unleaded in the MightyBoys. Never tried it yet...

Any success??

It is okay to use, but won't make a slight difference in performance.

i only run it on 98. doesn't really make a difference, but the last time i ran it on ULP it was pingin its head off.

plus it doesnt add up being much more expensive anyway..

If you're having issues running on standard ULP (92RON) then sure, start using PULP. But start at regular premium unleaded (95RON) and if that's still giving you issues then retard your ignition timing a little. I fucked around for ages working out whether you could tune F5As to make more power from 98RON fuel and the simple fact of the matter is that on 98RON juice you can advance the timing so far that you start losing power before you start to get detonation, ie: A higher compression ratio is required to really take advantage of 98RON fuel. Anything over 95RON and you're just losing power to the slower burn rate, and wasting your precious monies! :(

thought i would revive this thread....

i run 95 RON unleaded with timing set at 10 degrees (f8b with matching box) but it seems a bit sluggish under load, like going up hills. am i better off putting it back to 7 degrees and running standard unleaded.... i think i did this before and got better performance under load (but have done work to carby since and not completely sure if going back to 7 degrees will help)

any suggestions?

thanks,

jono

I wouldn't run regular unleaded in a japanese engine. I found my ute used to ping a bit in hot weather running that, even with standard timing.

Stick to running 95 and wind the timing back a bit, see what that does.
