I'd certainly hope so! :-o

However, if it's the engine's structural integrity you're concerned about, rest easy knowing that the only circumstances under which you're going to f**k the drivetrain in a MightyBoy within the first few weeks of owning it are:

a) You picked up an extremely neglected example.
b) You are a f***ing dickhead.

There's not an awful lot to break in these engines, and provided you run a good quality engine oil (Castrol GTX Magnatec at the very least, Mobil 1 or similiar at best) and change it at the correct intervals, (every 5000kms, thanks!) keep the engine tuned correctly and warm it up correctly, you can use every RPM in the 6000RPM rev-range without complaint from under the bonnet.

 Yes, yes they are... Don't be buying one of these for speed unless you've got a nice $5000 cabbage to upgrade the drivetrain to an imported EFI one...

For a while I ran mobil 1 in my beastie & changed it avery 5000km, but soon I figured out that I was using a 5:1 ratio (in terms of $) of fuel to oil. ie every 5000km would be $250 of petrol & $55-$65 of oil (not including filter every 10k) so I quickly buggered that for a bad idea & started to use mobil xhp again ($15).
The engine still runs & it get flogged pretty badly every day (70kph in third & 100+kph freeway cruising mostly).

Very slow, but I'm not complaining.

For starters, you should be changing your oil filter whenever you change the oil. There's no sense in feeding a baby that's already crapped in its nappy.

Secondly, Mobil 1 sells in 5Ltr quantities for around $60, and because the F5A has a 2.5Ltr sump, 1 bottle of Mobil 1 should do 2 oil changes. $30 every 5000kms - the same as any other car on the road for a poorer quality of oil.

As far as middle-of-the-road sorts of oil go, I highly recommend Castrol GTX Magnatec for engines that still have reasonably good tolerances, or Penrite HPR15 for engines with a bit of wear.

OIL + FILTER every 5000kms

you change your oil every 5000 k/m if its turbo
every 10000 k/m for non turbo motors is quite acceptable unless your usung crap oil ,mobile 1 is good for up to 20000 k/m without any problems
so i say change your oil every 10000 k/m and filter (non turbo) fill with good oil (my preference shell helix plus) and you will have no problems with the lubrication system............josh 5k is overkill and a waste of money

My research leads me to believe otherwise. Each to their own. :NFI:

10,000kms is ok until about 180,000k's or 2nd timing belt. after that, 5000kms is better, keeps the metal particles out of the system. Incidently, a magnetic sump plug does a good job, even if it is a bitch to clean every service :x

My readings suggest that by after about 4000kms use engine oils (mineral-based oils in particular) start to break down at the chemical level in a major way, so of course my 10,000kms the oil is completely fucked and hasn't been doing the greatest for some time.

With a 2.5 litre sump I think I'll stick to changing the oil every 5000k thank you very much. 8)

Yeah, it probably has half the sump volume & half the amounts of pistons etc of most Aussie engines. So sump volume vs what that volume is servicing is probably on par with most 6cyls... :?:

I change mine (with a shitty nappy) every 5k cause it gets thrashed like you wouldn't believe & the oil is very black by the time 5k comes up.

For interest, the sticker under the bonnet says to change the oil every 10k if I'm not wrong.
