Ok, This started out as a dead alternator in my mightyboy,

i have 2 hatch alternators lying spare, figure its worth the try.

the Differences are,
Brackets, Both upper and lower
Wiring, mightyboy is internally regulated, hatch externally

Get a Hatch alternator with both brackets still attached, bolt these onto the engine,

Buy a Bosch Electronic Regulator Model RE55

B On both alternators go to the battery +

Fantastic! I tried using a Hatch alternator back when I first did by F8B transplant with no luck.

Great to see it can be done, as the Hatch alternator has a few extra watts capacity over the MB unit.

Great guide. It should be turned into a PDF and put into the guides section of the site!

I've got one or two hatch alternators hanging around as spares, as well as atleast one, if not 2 sets of alt brackets for them, always thought i could make use of them one day, with an external regulator. Now we all know what ext reg we need.

As for the output of the alternators, does anyone know the sizes of both? I hope to be making some more progress on the stereo install in my boy soon, and a larger alternator could be good.

BTW, do you mind if i put the reg part number into the Parts Spreadsheet? ;)

Cheers
