I sprayed my tray with a paint called aqua fleck. You can get it in a variety of colours. The base colour is oil based and the colour flecks are water based so they don't mix in when you spray it. It comes out quite thick and hard wearing. Only cost about $30 bucks for the tin and just goes through a normal spray gun. I think you can get it in a can too though.

my dad puts the welder and heaps of tools in the back of mine
iv had the lawnmower in it too and other stuff, it definatly gets some use
