a trip to the wreckers solved half my problem
(passenger side) i used suzuki swift inner and cc72v rsr shaft and outer
im stuck on the drivers side as rsr uses a half shaft and a shorter drive shaft. standard alto shaft is right length but too thin for the swift inner.

You mean where the cv connects to it? If so, when i was looking at my F8b gearbox in pieces, the crown wheel was bolted to the carrier & the carrier has the splines on it.kei_spec_rsr wrote:does anybody know if those little splined stubbs come out of the 4 speed boxes easily ???

i went to see the drive shaft specialist yesterday
it looks like i have to get the drivers side shaft custom made
i think the guy is going to cut down a longer shaft and re spline it to suit the swift outer and then heat treat it. $$$
the passenger side is sorted. it has been converted to a tripod style inner joint instead of a ball and cage type and i have had a new swift outer fitted and machined down where it goes into the wheelbearing hub. $130
im starting to hate driveshafts

I bet you are!
I've got a spare set here i should get reco'd soon, but i just haven't the time to take them in. A while ago before i bought a F8b & committed on the path to a F8b mighty boy, i seriously looked at a G10a 3pot conversion with the swift 5speed, and the cost i was adv for custom drive shafts & engine mounts was too prohibitive at the time.
Let us know how much your custom shaft comes out to, i'm curious.
Cheers

I wrecked an 87 or so 3 pot Swift the right side shaft on that was in 2 pieces, a long one and a short one about 120mm, the long one was marked Mighty Boy, obviously sourced as a replacement from a wrecker, suggest you have a look at some swifts from that era.
Right side shaft 2 pieces? That would look interesting, never seen a drive shaft like that before.
I have heard that the 3 pot swift shared one shaft with the mighty boy/hatch/alto.

Swifts use a balance /intermiediate shaft to maintain even lengths. Helps to control torque steer, which would be outrageous with a whopping 1L motor!
F8B EFI turbo - Three pots and a snail.
That's interesting Brayden! I wonder if you did away with the "extra bit" if it's easy to fit the G10a into a mighty boy? I'm only thinking about the shafts, not everything else required! lol.Brayden wrote:Swifts use a balance /intermiediate shaft to maintain even lengths. My Drive shafts are ready to pick up
it is going to cost me $260 for the custom shaft which is a thicker shaft that has been cut down, re-splined and heat treated at both ends and converted to tripod inner and swift outer (machined down).
i will try and post a pic when i pick them up

Nice to see that you have solved the problem Just a pity about the costs!!!!
Could you post the dimensions of the shafts for future reference for others???
number of splines : this gives the thickness of the bar.
shaft length : measured from the centre point of each bearing (not the length of the complete drive shaft)
If you are happy with the final product it might be worth mentioning the Drive Shaft Shop that did your work....(it's always good to know which shops are willing to do small jobs)

That sounds reasonable considering the work involved! It would be nice to know the workshop so that if anyone else wants to get one done, they could call them up to order it.
I can't wait for a pic.

i picked up the shafts 2 day and the custom one fits perfect except the guy forgot to machine down the outer joint where it contacts the wheelbearing seal but other than that its perfect. these will be pretty strong shafts compared to the standard ones and will last a lot longer too.
The shop is Southern Drive shafts in caringbah nsw
its a 1 man operation but he will do anything u want for a price. and he's quick too it took 3 days to do my custom shafts.
eg. i gave him a standard alto shaft and he gave me back a thicker re splined shaft with male tripod inner and swift outer for $260 pretty good value i rekon, considering standard shaft is usually $120 exchange and i got a custom shaft with bigger joints for 260
