I've just bought a Suzuki Swift 3 door and I'd really like to make a proper ID on what it is and what engine it has (I don't think they match!). It's licenced as an '85, but is there a site that would help me that lists the numbers from the compliance plates and what they mean?

Basically, I'm thinking of doing it up and need some resources. Don't wanna buy the wrong manual, lol

If it is a 1985 Suzuki Swift 3 door then it will be a GA model, equipped with a G10A 993cc engine.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there an ID plate on the engine anywhere, or any other way to make sure it's the right one? It's got a nice big-end rattle and I'm thinking I'm up for a rebuild real soon.

Meh, what do ya want for 50 bucks?

I think all Suzuki engine numbers are generally cast into the block below the inlet manifold.

Surely there's a factory spec plate attached to the firewall somewhere that has the engine type on it? :|

Like I said, not sure if the body and the engine match. I'll look at the compliance plate and see if the engine number tells me anything.

At least I know what's supposed to be in it now!
