Mightyboy 0 – 60 Acceleration data?

As Mightyboy EV is 1 year old in a few days, I thought I should actually measure it’s on road performance and compared to a stock 550 Mightyboy (and maybe against a 800cc implant). The cheap batteries used should be serviceable for another 18 months at least. The EV has done about 4,000km and the batteries have gone through about 200 charges in the year.

This morning I decided to see what the 0 to 60 km/h time actually was…… on several runs I timed a best time of 12.8 secs and 13.6 on the return. So my question is:

How does this compare with a manual 550cc Mightyboy?
How does this compare with an automatic 550cc Mightyboy?
How does this compare with a manual 800cc Mightyboy?
How does this compare with a manual turbo 800cc Mightyboy?

Many people have ask me this question – so in comparison how bad is the EV’s performance @ 0 – 60? Please keep in mind I have programmed the motor controller for range rather than acceleration ( I limit to just under 300 Amps). Performance would be much better with the more expense Li-Ion batteries but the extra money still seems a waste given the type of use the car was designed for… I will do the 0 to 80 km/h tests at some time as well. The relatively low battery pack voltage limits the cars top speed performance to about 88 km/h anyway. The 30 to 35 km daily drives (max) have 40, 50 and 60 km/h speed zones only so no issue.

Any help with accuracy performance figures appreciated.

Standard manual MB does 0-60kph in 8.41 seconds. I would suspect the auto is much the same because the lack of torque only really hits home at 60+.

Measured with a G-tech I managed 0-100kph of about 11-12 seconds with my F8B when it was naturally aspirated. That was carrying about 50kg of stereo gear too. I haven't tested the F8B turbo yet, but this is probably a good enough reason!

I’m impressed with even the stock figure! With the old ICE motor I’m sure I was nowhere near 8.5 secs for 0 – 60... But the motor had 138,000 km and smoked.

I am just recharging and will try the same run using only my low gear (3rd on original 4 speed). I normally only use my high gear (4th on the original 4 speed box) and reverse but 3rd should be quicker? 1st and 2nd are locked out on the EV...

With the series DC motor I have max torque at the start so 0 - 30 is nice and quick. Slower after that to 65 than very slow to hit 80!

Did you ever find any published data on performance?

It is very interesting - like accelerating from 60 to 70 kph takes another 3.5 Sec?

OK tried my lower gear and it doesn’t real improve the overall 0 – 60 figure. But you can spin the wheels and go extremely quickly to 30! Then all is slow heading to 60. So the overall 0 to 60 time is about the same – around 12.5 secs. So the high gear (4th) is better for driving – nice and smooth to 55 then tapers very slightly going to towards 60 -65 but overall no issue in keeping up in city traffic.

Best I can seem to get is 11 sec by adjusting the controller to max – the cheap batteries are my bottle neck.... But not going to pay $5,000 to get 6 to 8 secs.

Brayden were the 12 inch alloys shown in that 1985 magazine article very common in Australia? Did Suzuki offer them as a optional extra?? Would they have actually been lighter than the pressed steel standard rims???

Btw Plasma Boy in White Zombie, one of the world's quickest accelerating street legal electric cars, (both in 0-60mph and in the 1/4 mile) does 0 to 60 mph (not kph) in 2.9 secs. The alloy wheels were offered as a dealer extra, but the cost (like all Suzuki accessories) was pretty steep. As a result not many were sold, and most MB's ended up with 12" Cheviot alloys instead.

I would expect they alloys would marginally lighter than the steel rims, but it couldn't be much more than a kilo or two per rim.

Which rims are yiu reffering to?

I have 12's on mine. Silver ones. They are about 1-2kg lighter than the steelies. Tyres are exact same. Hope that helps.
