I think that means it either too rich or the ignition timings out. Does it pink?

Guys it is 'pinging', not 'pinking'

If the engine is surging at low throttle I would first look at the entire ignition system (including the timing) and also make sure the timing belt pulleys are tight and not floating.

Hey Brayden, If you speak with an older mechanic they will tell you it is pinking. We younger blokes simply mis-heard them.

'Pinking' is an archaic British term, and I'm on a one-man mission to bury it. :P

I'm only having a joke. It doesn't really matter what you call it, we all understand what it means. ;)

Pulsing, surging, basically the vehicle feels like it is doing mini roo-hops at low RPM.

Detonation, pinging and pinking. I never know which one to choose haha. I've been told its all of the lot.

Anyway hook a timing light up to your Van.

Detonation causes a pinging/pinking noise that I found hard to notice until the damage was done. No.3 shed 10mm from the top ring & smacked it repeatedly into the piston crown.
