Hi guys i have a question about my F8A carry, After about 3 mins of driving the car seems to be starved of fuel and conks out :( so i thought it might be the carburetor float out of wack so i adjusted it but on observation through the looking glass of the chamber
it seems to fill with fuel and slowly drain and then doesnt seem to refill. so i then checked the needle and fuel pump and they seem to be fine so i was wondering if anyone knows what it could be i changed all fuel lines and filter and flushed the fuel tank, i changed all ingnition parts and sparks. and all the carburetor gaskets seem tight. =(
p.s. fuel is clean 98 and all lines are free from debris.

Is there a fuel return line? (reads like you checked it). Is air sucked into the tank when you remove the cap once the engine dies?
I had much the same trouble with my MightyBoy, it had me totally stumped until I noticed the top & bottom of the fuel tank being sucked in. I tried to blow down the return line without success. I ended up working a long piece of wire down the return with some carbie cleaner (still can't get over the amount of gunk removed).
I did this with the tank disconnected & I cleared the pipe with compressed air before re-assembly.
I can't say that is your problem, it's only one possibility.

Had a car at work awhile back,ex ambulance,i think a camry. The plastic tank in it had been sucked up, so much that it would only take 10 or so litres. Oddly enough they never complained about it.

Hey gadj and Billy! thanks for your replys!

i gave the return a good inspection and it seemed to be clear of debris and muck
but it still continued to conk out so,

I cleaned the carby today with carby cleaner and found some orange brittle crud in the bottom underneath the float chamber in between the 2 rubber gaskets i removed it and gave the rest a proper clean but can i say that the CRC carby cleaner is pretty sh#t next time ill get the nulon one, anyway bolted it all back together and this fixed the float chamber/float problem as it hasnt died on me like it used to. :)

so thats great and im pretty happy, the carby does have a little flat spot when the accel is halfway depressed but i dont know what is causing that ive checked the advance on the distributor but seems to be working fine and the vaccum hoses are all good so thats my next project ! :?:

Relieved to read it was the obvious after all. That flat spot could be a simple tuning issue, however considering the age of the vehicle it could also be wear in the throttle shaft &/or carbie body (a carbie specialist can drill the body & bush the shaft). I'm not familiar with the carbie on your model but if it is a twin throat, check the mechanism operating the secondary - MightyBoys have a vacuum secondary that plays up a bit so we either get the vacuum pot re-manufactured or convert to mechanical secondary.
