Hi guys,

have found a suzuki super carry with a blown bottom end and a f10a from a sierra.

Now is it just a matter of swapping all the f10a super carry parts onto the sierra motor?
(manifolds, ancillaries, sump, pickup...etc)

Is there anything else different on the sierra motors?
i have heard they are more prone to overheating?

thanks

Check the head. I'm pretty sure the oil galleries are configured differently for the slant angle of a SuperCarry.

Thanks very much guys

Following on from this

how hard would it be to convert a JDM rwd carry ute to f10a and 5spd?
would this conversion also work with a JDM 4wd carry or would you need to retain the standard gearbox in order to keep the 4wd system?

basically i would like to import a carry ute from japan, but want to be able to drive in on the freeway without it revving high.

Thanks once again

to do highway driving in a carry you need a 5 speed :thumbup1:

f10a + 5speed + 14" wheels = highway....

ok guys

have found a sierra engine i want to buy

so now is it a matter of swapping the carry head onto the sierra bottom end with carry pickup and sump?

should i get new head studs/ head gaskets?
should i get the head recon while its off?

cheers

If you're pulling apart the motor it would be foolish not to rebuild it, including skimming the head/block to ensure they go together flush.

hmm decisions decisions

would i be better off not buying the sierra f10a then and just rebuild what i have?

was thinking the sierra f10a would be the cheapest way out of this

Well there's cheap and then there's reliable. ;) Second hand motors are always a gamble.

so

according to suziauto
f10a sierra/carry is the same except for sump, pickup, cam and tappet cover

so the option of using a chinese made f10a is the best option.

now i will definately swap the sump, pickup and tappet cover on.

if i dont swap the cam, will i run into fueling issues due to different cam profile being used? possibly require rejetting of the carb?

how much of a difference is there in the two cams...anyone got specs for a carry canshaft and a sierra cam

i think they would be close to being the same :?:

cheers.

perhaps the sierra f10a camshaft is designed to produce torque lower in the rev range for 4wdíng purposes?

dont see there being a problem either way

will buy a 2nd hand motor this week and see how it looks

some info for those wanting to go down this path.

i bought a 2nd hand f10a engine for $150. turned out to be a maruti f10a. not 100% sure what model it came from but im assuming its from a gypsy (sierra).

after buying the correct bolts (m10x1.25 i think) to mount the maruti engine to my engine stand. i did the following:

stripped the maruti engine completely until i was left with the bare block and head.

the carry cam needs to be swapped in as the gear that drives the distributor is different. you might be able to press off the gear, but i decided to swap the cams over.

i still have a fair bit to go before i can put the maruti engine in

so far i've put the carry oil pickup, sump and engine mounts on along with new seals, water pump and core (welsh plugs)
