I've got a DIY fuel pump install and have to travel 900 of Kay via plane and Fix it, get it going anddrive it away. Was wandering what exactly I will need to get it done?
I've sourced a second 'as new' fuel pump and fuel lines and will pull them off a vehicle on the way through Melb to Canberra. To get an auto MB that's been sitting for a year or two undriven.
There is being some Oil poured down the head this week to seeep down! Its a 1985 f8b motor.
DIY Fuel Pump & Lines Instal?
With the right tools this is a straight forward job. There are 2 bolts holding the fuel pump on - it sits high in the engine bay. The only thing that I find is that it can be difficult getting to one of the bolts with the egr bypass tube. As for the hose, original clips are the squeeze type. Might be worth throwing a cheap inline filter in too. Not a big job, just fiddly. If you are driving melb to Canberra, what way will you go? I have a lot of auto f5a stuff that might be useful.
Pm me for more info.
Cheers,
Jason

when you pull the pump oil will come out. seeing as its auto it shouldn't hurt. but make sure there is sufficient oil in the gearbox it could have leaked down a bit while standing. i am not sure with the m/b but with the holden you have to get the oil to running temperature and check the gearbox dipstick with the engine running. someone else on here will have the correct procedure. also it wouldn't hurt to ask the seller if they have any odd spare parts or odds and sods laying about you never know what they might have . a brave move driving it 400k on the first go, good luck!
Will refer to this! Thanks for the insight.
Heading off on the journey this afternoon won't get to camberra till Thursday afternoon 954kays and a stop over Melb for a fule pump and fuel lines. If anyone could get one over to me in Brighton melb that would be handy instead of trying to find way around Melbourne stuffing about.

If you get stuck with anything when you get to Canberra let me know. I should have enough spares here to help you out.
