The brands are much of a muchness these days, we have a CIG and a WIA tig at the workshop, both are good to use. They can be expensive to run though, as you need argon gas rather than migsheild or co2, and I believe you need different tips for stainless, ally etc

CIG & WIA are highly regarded in industry. If you have a welding supplies store in the area they will prefer to sell reliable machines as they will be well aware bad news not only travels faster - it is louder. There are a few combination machines on the market now that I find tempting but am hesitant to indulge due to a fear of 'more to go wrong' Trade Tools http://www.tradetools.com/home.aspx have one such machine as do Grudge Imports http://www.grudge.com.au/. My biggest requirement when I replace my current welder is inverter technology.
Another I am impressed with is the DHC 2000 http://www.amweld.com.au/
So many delays to getting my MB back in order with 993cc & 5 speed transaxle... neighbor issue gone, donor shell up on rotisserie, new sheds on the way.... another project also..
