F8B Interference or Non - Interference

Hey all

while driving along i heard a massive smack from a belt and the engine cut out. i later diagnosed it to be the timing belt had just carked it. i am wondering before i go stripping the head down to see if any valve damage and piston damage, is the engine / valve layout interference or non - interference. just to get an estimate of the scale of the damage.

Thanks

G'day Eamon.

I have just begun rebuilding my f8b engine, and after a head skim i can confirm that mine is a clearance engine(pistons can spin seperate to valves without crashing).

However, you should always assume your engine is an interferance engine as you do not know what work has been done to it in the past. If a machine shop has skimmed the deck and the head considerably, this can be enough to change your engine to an interferance engine. I personally won't have this problem because i built my setup and know for a fact that it will not foul even if the belt goes.

Hope this was helpful
