Help Please - How do you tell an F8B Gearbox

Can someone knowledgeable please help.
Just wondering is there is a way to tell if a gearbox is an F8b (Without opening it) as I believe the only difference is the gears inside.
Looking at buying one and the person selling wasn't 100% sure.
