...and a cheaper, "quality crap" brand at that. Not everybody can afford VDO.

SpecoMeter gear was launched shortly before I finished up at SCA and I seem to recall that most of their pricing was pretty reasonable and the gear didn't look terrible in the flesh, either.

Eskibagh, don't know if Mighty Boys have different gear ration to an Alto, but mine idles at 1,100, does 5,500 at 110k's, 6.000 at 120 and peaks at 6,400 at 129 with a tail wind......both barrels open.

That's an f5a, so I can only imagine your gear ratio is different for carrying loads.....i.e. a ute.

I would have thought an 800 would have a higher speed / Rpm than an f5a, but gear ratios obviously play a part......and yeah, I reckon a safe Redline would be 6,000 rpm.

F5A gearbox will make the engine sit on 5000RPM @ 100KPH
F8B gearbox will make the engine sit on ~4000RPM @ 100KPH

Regardless of model (MB vs Alto vs Hatch) the above is true.

how long should it take to wind out to 100? my f5a only really likes to do about 80-85kph.

Firstly, it sounds like your f5a is only running on the primary stage of your carby and or your air cleaner elemant needs replacing.

Open the bonnet and look at the carby, on the front left hand side is a brass looking circular thing with a black rubber hose coming out and back to the carby......disconnect this hose and see if you have any loss of power, if so then your carby is only running on 1 side.

Possible cause 1. that brass thing ( diaphram ) has a hole in it and is leaking air, not allowing the 2nd stage to open.

2. the fuel feeder pipe inside the carby is blocked.

Your f5a is capable of much better performance than that.

More often than not the ignition system is in a shite state of affairs and that alone will give you figures as poor as that. You can break 100km/h on the primary stage alone with any trouble at all. It just takes a little longer to get there.
