Hey guys, i got an F8B that has been bored to 1mm oversize.
I didn't know this until i pulled it apart and found out.

From what i've heard you can't bore the block any more than 1mm or you get cylinder warping, is this correct?
I know colin is the master when it comes to this sort of thing but any ideas from anyone would be helpful.

As i said it is bored 1mm over and has a lip, how big can i go?

check with your engine reconditioner you can go further than 1 mm easy 1mm= 40 thou most can go to 60 thou (1.5 mm) if thats a problem get them sleeved it will work as good
1mm = 40 thou
1.5 mm = 60 thou
2mm =80 thou

So you can go to 1.5mm. I wasn't sure but thats good.
Are the pistons and rings for that size easy to get?
Are they an off the shelf type item?

I also bought another F8B block, it hasn't been bored...yet, it needs it though. From what i can tell my new block is still pretty standard, except for the go fast red paintjob on the outside.
Thanks for your help.

Amen to that!
So i'm guessing the 1.5mm oversize piston and ring set is easy to get.
Thanks Colin, i'll update my progress as i go.

Would doing that to the crank give a longer stroke or what?

ofett grinding the crank 1mm will insrease the stroke 1mm this is why you need to remove 1mm from the top of the pistons it will give you more torque (pulling power)
this will increase the overall sise of the motor i will run up the specs later and let you know

I enquired about offset grinding from the local engineering shop and they were talking several hundreds of dollars. Were they conning me?

That sounds good, what other internal performance mods could i do while the engine is apart?

std piston = 68.5 mm
std stroke = 72 mm = 796cc

1.5mm o/s piston (70 mm)
1mm o/s stroke (73 mm) = 843 cc

Cam? :twisted:

Or you could let the compression ration get raised and really take advantage of higher octane juice if you're going to keep the engine naturally aspirated! :burnout:

Is that to stabilise all that power by adding a counterweight? :D
