cheers guys.
Both good ideas.. I like the buy for $80 one, so long as it has the rear demist wires.

Removing window tint question.
I have a vx hatch. The window tint has been removed on all but the rear hatch window.
How do I remove the tint without destroying the rear demist ribbing that's on the glass?

The shaft shouldn't really wear but the oil seal can fail or wear out. It is not the rubber/plastic cover that you can see externally but it is inside the box. It means that to access this you need to take off the round plate underneath the box near to where the shaft enters the box. It has been men...

Your idle up actuator looks all wrong, and I can't work out how it works in the pic you have provided. Basically on an automatic F5a or F8b this actuator allows the idle to rev higher when cold as the engine warms up the actuator drops the revs in the same way and auto choke works. On the other hand...

Yes, I converted my mb auto with an 800 auto and my fuel consumption was not good at all. I realised this when I bought a vx hatch 800 manual. Not only is it zippier, (by far) but fuel economy was substaintially better. 150k's more + per tank. That's heaps for a little car. I really enjoy the auto t...

more on the hatch
I forgot to mention that there was also a neat upgrade of the hatch dash some time in mid 1983, if you are rebuilding a hatch it may be a good idea totry and find this dash. From time to time you they do pop up on ebay but, it's a case of good timing and luck. The 50/50 rear spilt seat has no real s...

hatch rear seat story
Yes, rear seats only appeared on hatches initially as an sftermarket add on. The dealers were never really alowed to sell or advertised the "passenger based commercial" hatch for the pasanger market as they were only allowed to get them here in Australia as commercial vehicle. Very quickly...

oooh, i cant really say it looks like that. there is a pic and a diagram of it from the factory hatch 800 manual (pages 15-4 and 13-3 13-6) there is no reference to it. I guess the best name for it is the gear shift control rod boot (??) The issuue then is you have to pull the rod out to slip, even ...
