Hi there. A few more questions. $$??? Where the car is located? How many Kms? Tyre tread %?? Manual I am guessing? Reliability? As it will be used as a daily driver. im after about $3000 for it as is. You could spend about $500 getting a new gearbox for it, or spend about the same and rebuild it. I...

I have one that I am thinking about selling. Its an 87 RSX, with a few very minor mods (full viper remote start alarm, turbo timer, neons!, boost guage, bov, cd player and splits). It has 6 months rego and runs beatifully. The only issue is that the gearbox has dropped a carrier bearing. Let me know...

Thanks for the posts guys. Ill see what my mate says - hes a mechanic, so he should be able to help with sourcing parts - he also might be buying the car back off me (I bought it off him a year ago) - it will be sad to see it go, but I cant afford to run 2 cars anymore - so if I knew I was keeping i...

Alto Works RSX: Gearbox Rebuild
My Alto Works RSX (88 model, square lights) needs a gearbox rebuild. The car still drives, but it developed a grinding noise. The carrier bearing on the diff side of the gearbox was diagnosed as the problem, using a stephoscope with the car up on a hoist. Not sure how extensive the damage is, all I ...

yeh hopefully its not too badly damaged inside the box. I remembered what bearing it was today - its the Carrier Bearing. I guess I should start a new thread on rebuilding the gearbox (ie what parts I need etc). (I will ofcourse search first, but I imagine the topic would have been covered for Might...

Brayden, looks like you were right. I took it to a place this morning and they said it was a bearing in the gearbox, on the diff side of things (the type of bearing started with a C, cant remember what it was now!). They used a stephoscope to find the noise (strangely the noise wasnt that bad today)...

ok so an update. I rotated both wheels and the griding noise was coming mostly from the right hand wheel. The left hand wasnt so bad - this was the one that I noticed the buggered axle boot. I wasnt able to remove the wheel nuts on the RHS - they were simply on too tight and I dont have a breaker ba...

alto works: grinding noise
Just noticed this tonight - it was that bad that I had to turn around and go home. Its quite a loud high pitch grinding or screeching noise, when the car is in motion. It makes the noise when the car is in gear, out of gear, braking - just doesnt make it at 0km/h. The noises change slightly when tur...

FS: Alto Works RSX Steering Wheel
FS: Alto Works RSX Steering Wheel This is for sale as I found one in better condition. A lot of the covering stuff is disintigrating, so this steering wheel needs either a cheap cover over the top, or you could get the whole thing retrimmed. I did drive with this steering wheel for 6 months like th...
