thanks
brad
what will it cost me to do a full rebuild on my mighty mota
well i currently reconditioned my f5a and with me doing all the labor myself i spent just over $400 (that was with 65% off, cause my neighbour is a engine reconditioner) so work it out and you'll have a rough idea. by the way i didn't recon the carby.

I'd be allowing $1000+
Just in case.

i got a mate to do mine it cost $700 i think.... but he gharged for labor to, but i dn, it really depends i suppose
There's recon, and then there's recon.
It really depends on how thourough you intend to be. I'm busy doing 2 f8b motors ATM. One has got new pistons, will get new valve guides etc whereas the other is being done using good old pistons and only a service of the head.
My good engine has cost me about $1200 so far and I haven't started with the head yet. The 'make do' engine will come in at just on $1000, but it did require a new crank, so that accounted for a decent amout.
I personally wont be recon-ing a suzi carby. I've done that once at $300, and a few years later it's shite again. Better bet in my opinion is to buy a new webber for a little bit more. I have a new 30dic waiting for one eng, and the other will likely get a 28/36 after it's run in for about $500 new.
Hope these experiences help you.

Was it you who wanted to supercharge yours?are they higher quality then the standard
Because you mean strength right?
Anyway, back to the question...
Probably not, at that price they're probaly not forged so they shouldn't be any stronger than the originals.
Colin, Brayden... You've both done tubo systems on your utes, did you get forged internals?
I'd be guessing you are Colin, 18PSI is pretty insane without forged pistons.

Colin runs offset pistons and all sorts of other mods. Anything above 10PSI is wishful thinking on stock internals - unless you upgrade to EFI - and even then I wouldn't go past 12PSI. I was running 7PSI with a carby, and that was tricky to set up with regards to timing, as it is all guess work without expert help.
Fritz, how did it cost you so much to rebuild a carby?! A rebuild kit and brand new secondary diaphragm are only worth about $120 tops!

I had my carby reco'd by a carby joint for $220 cash price. I looked at it, checked the schematics (sp?) and thought, nah, i'll pay to get that one done! I think carbies are too fiddly & i'd spend too much time on them to be worth me doing the work. As for other jobs, i'll do most of them if i have time & tools!
I'm rebuilding a f8b atm. Looks like pistons & rings are fine. I've got new bottom end bearings, will try to get a reco oilpump for it, have all new seals / gaskits for the engine. Not sure yet if the carby on it will need a reco, or the dizzy, but i will definatly get a new rotor, cap & leads at the least. I think i've spent over $200 so far, inc spigot & throwout bearings for the gearbox as well.
I'm waiting till i drop it in & start it up to see if it's smokey or if carby needs a rebuild. Motor was meant to be, but rings check out well within spec for compression, so i think it will be the head if it does smoke. Dunno if i'll mess with it or just send it off for a full reco. Depends on price & what it really needs.
Cheers
