Came across an old article while trawling the web. (sorry if it is old news)

45-50kW and a heap of torque from an electric motor would be rather handy in a MB, especially at around 2 cents per km.
Electric Powered MB
Saw that too, plus a few other EV mighty boys around OZ. It appears we're one up on the americans in having such a suitable vehicle for the conversion.
Having no power steering or power brakes and less than 550kg, once motor, exhaust, fuel tank and radiator are removed, compares well
to an F250 ute that weighs in at 4400kg
.
(With EVs weight
is everything)
The range is still less than 50km
without top lead acid batteries, although with a $10,000+ set of Lithium Ion batteries it should be well above 100km
.
Gotta start somewhere, so when I get time to electrify my MB (all parts ready to go), I hope to dodge the $1.50 per litre that's looming somewhere in the future.

The time comes when robots are cheaper than people...
Forget dodging the $1.50 mark, I filled up my ute last week at $1.53 and then the Swift on Friday at $1.51.
This might be a suitable plan for my spare MB.

F8B EFI turbo - Three pots and a snail.
Whingers! I miss my Mightyboy as the tank is only ~20 litres! Even if it is 1.50 it's only $30 whereas my Vitara sucks up 50 litres and costs me $75!
I wish I had my mightyboy back. Chris, if you want to sell it.

Hey Dave, there's a nice Cappa for sale down here for $12k...

A Cappa would be great, but I can buy a lot of petrol for 12k....

Sounds like the problem I faced until recently.eDave wrote:Whingers! I miss my Mightyboy as the tank is only ~20 litres! Even if it is 1.50 it's only $30 whereas my Vitara sucks up 50 litres and costs me $75!

Vitara was sucking through 72L @ 12L/100km (and was easily breakable when 4WDing), so I worked out it was cheaper to buy a second car (MB) as a daily driver.
3 months later, my Vitara has done a total of 45km driving (all on sand dunes) while the MB has done over 6000km

If I'd known it was going to be such a petrol-hog, I wouldn't have bought it!
Just found this: http://www.solarvan.co.uk/

i've been thinking about the electric route for my van; if the motor where to pop i think thats the way i'd head. Considering anything I do would end up being a custom fabricated job, might as well go straight for the best long run option... 50 - 60 rwkw from an electric motor would be awesome in the carry
