Running 4 subs, AMPS, Speakers- Questions Help Please!

Im guessing u guys are right, i just like to jump into shit, i think i just got too excited on ebay and won a whole heap of shit and just wanna use it all. You must admit though it would be a good sight to see.

Im know 6 inch splits are good and all but a good set of 6x9s are fuk'n just as good, i also am getting a equalizer or sum shit so i can control each amp and adjust treble/bass/mid etc or sum bullshit like that.

Even the blokes at the audio store said why so many 6x9's 6 inchs would have been just as good and look a whole lot neater! Very true i said but i know i got good equiptment anyone who has a set of champion series Pioneer subs and 5 way 6x9s will know what im talking about. I had one set of these 6x9s and the treble is amazing- dont mean to sound gay.

They told me it would definatelybe louder- tooo loud actually, i will need ear plugs. Thats mainly what im after loudness and being heard. They said that they once did a mightyboy firbre glass enclosure with 2 15s in the tray- and the doors would open all by themselves, rattled the fk out of the windows- and rear window they took out and put perspex and sififlex.

i got a shitload of sound dedener to use. Remember the car will only be cranking when its crusing - not everyday. It more for a bit of fun the car- not for Db drags and sound offs. None the less thanks guys for your recomendations- if only i asked about a month ago. Thanks for the advice of the wiring too.

You can fit 6" splits in the front doors with pods. I have a set of Clarion Pro Audio series in mine, and the magnets on those are huge!

Ceej, sorry mate but I have to point out you have your tech info back to front on the amps/speakers. You always want your amp to have more grunt (headroom) than the subs, that way you don't force the amp into clipping trying to drive the subs at high volume.

Those subs being DVC means that running two per mono-block amp is still going to be driving the amp very hard, so you need all the grunt you can get.
Just thinking about this quickly, running two DVC subs off one amp will nearly put it down to 1OHM, and I'd be impressed if the amps could handle that kind of stress.

I didnt want to have any door speakers- a mightyboy cabin is small enough- i didnt want to minimise the legroom any more then in already is. Not only that but in my other cars the door pods always proved to be a nusience -ppl alwaays hitting them with there legs- just thought they were to anoying. With all the shit im running i dont think have door speakers will make a noticable difference.

When I said 6" splits wouldn't fit, I didn't mean on the door. I meant under the dash. I'm in the same boat as motorheadmatt, I don't want to put pods on the door because that will minimize my leg room, and I already have problems with hitting my leg against the door as it is. As I said, I'm happy with the way the system turned out, it sounds good, all clear, and has the right amount of bass.

Looking at the specs on the amps, they are rated at 787watts RMS@4ohm and 1114watts RMS@2ohm the subs are 400w RMS@4ohm. Run the subs in parrallel of one amp and you will end up giving each sub approximately 1200w @2ohms. Is this not correct? If so you will have plenty of headroom. But My mistake, I mis-read that you had four subs, not two. So using two amps will be adequate.

Please inform me if what I have said is incorrect, I want to be sure I have the right idea because this is the way I have understood it.

slightly off topic...

i put 6' kickers in my carry doors. not really thinking of the whole clearance issue. i got half way thru my installation (holes cut, wires run)and thought they may not fit as i forgot that the window panes slide down into the door.

all worked out fine however. the kickers must just be shallow enough that it slides past. however i cant put the covers on if i dont want them smashing into the dash when i close the door, or if i want to wind my windows down. lol

back on topic...

what sort of rattle do u get when u have such powerful installs in older cars?

i thought i was lucky with very minimal rattle in mine.

maybe foam/rubber can be use in some areas????

for my kickers in the door, i got that thin construction foam stuff comes in rolls at a hardware shop. just put in between the speaker screw holes and the steel or panel your fastening it too. drill the screw thru it and should hold it there so the speaker will vibrate off that not the panel. it definetly worked for mine.

theres prob a more professional way of doing it but sometimes simple is better.

the custom alternator, and oddysey battery are getting fitting today- took sum before pics and will take sum tonight- post them soon.

wanted to know what are you recomendations for capacitors????
ive had them before and dont really think they helped??? will me alternator and battery be enough- i dont plan on having the system cranking without the car off. so it will always be charging......any suggestions???

Capacitors aren't designed to help when the car isn't running, they just reduce load spikes on the battery. If you install the system and find that your instruments/lights are dimming with the volume up, then worry about installing a cap.
