G'day, I'm after a decent (working) carby for an F5A. Actually, the part I'm realy after is the bottom section that contains the secondary butterfly. The one on mine has seized and I'm happy to replace it with one that turns easily. If you can help me out, PM me a price including postage to Melbourne 3036.

If you can't find a replacement then soak the one you have in petrol for a few days. That should free up the butterfly.

Thanks for the advice Brayden, but I've done that before...after 4 days in petrol it freed it up enough to move it but it wasn't smooth and still took some effort. That was about 3 months ago and the car hasn't been driven in that time...It's now dead stiff again and won't rotate...I'd like to pull the shaft out and give it a good clean up but the screw holding the butterfly to the shaft is completely rounded....easier to replace it with a decent one....unless you have any other ideas....

If all else fails, try using vice grips to grab hold of the screw with and un-do it. you can find a replacement screw without to much hassle.

If you can get the shaft out, its not a difficult job to drill the holes out bigger in the housing and use brass, steel or something simular and have a bush made up to fit tight in the assembly housing but still allow the butteryfly shaft to pivot freely (i have known in some cases where people have used small sealed bearings, gives a beautiful smooth,clean throttle action).

This works easiest if the butterfly shaft hasn't been to badly corroded, if this isn't to bad you can give it a clean up with some sand paper and the job is done. if it is badly corroded, then it makes the job a little trickier but still possible.

Have a chat with you local engineering mob, they should be able to help you out with doing this if you can't get another butterfly assembly.

Or you could just try taking it to a carby rebuild specialist and see if you can leave it in thier carby dip and give it a clean up and see if that helps.

Al, had a go at the screws with vice grips but they are so small and flat that there's no side on them to get a grip on...
I've shoved it back in a container of petrol and will see if that free's it up again, might have to drill out the screws!!

Still after a butterfly assembly if anyone has a spare laying around!!!

Okay so I found a butterfly assembly. It was pretty grubby and such, so I gave it a douse with Yield and will check to see if it frees up.
