Just bought this today - had to tow it home since the clutch was completely gone.. It's amazing just how similar it is to my hatch - although it's got independant rear coil suspension, and a 2 cylinder 700cc powerhouse.

yeah the Justy would be sweet too - See quite a lot of them over here, but this is the first "700" or sherpa I've seen. Had to have it!
(I think) the clutch is stuffed. There is no drive in any gear, but I can hear a slight sound when I let the clutch out. I'm taking it apart this weekend to see what I find, but otherwise it's a nice little car. Body is pretty tidy and there's less rust than the suzuki..
Interesting engine though - two cylinders firing simultaneously. weird....

I would say the model you have runs wasted spark ignition... both plugs fire but one will not ignite anything.

Well, first a little update on what's been happening with the little Subie.
It's still off the road.
I replaced the clutch and she was all good, then after a few drives I got a blown head gasket. I could not find a single place in NZ that could supply a replacement. In the end I contacted SuperCheap Auto over there in Oz, and managed to get one from them bought over with a friend.
Something has gone wrong after installing and there's now an oil leak from the new gasket. I'm suspecting I need to get the head planed, or crack tested.
So I was wondering if someone would be able to do me a huge favour and track down a head gasket for me. Either through SuperCheap or elsewhere - anywhere will do but the cheaper the better!
A new tensioner and cam belt would be nice, but the head gasket is the priority.
Not sure how payment would be handled but I'm sure that there's a way!
The engine is a two cyl, 4 stroke, 665cc EK42 from a 1983 Subaru Sherpa / 700 / Rex and some micro-vans I beleive?

hhmmmm if its that hard to get you could make a copper one .I have done this for extreme boost and comp cars (also did it when I was a youngin - milled the whole centre out of a 1500 ford block made and fitted linears then added vw pistons and a lotus head so had to make my own gasket X2)and a few places do it but not sure of the $$ a googgle may turn up a place in N.Z. that does it. Copper gaskets can be used a number of times if care is taken to aneal them prior to use and for those reading extreme boost means fitting rings (copper) around each pot (dont need to this unless boost+) and that means machineing grooves into the top of the block (usually 0.039" wide X 0.030" deep) this isnt cheap and it needs to be accurate (best if you can do it yourself or can get a mate to).If you decide to have a go at making your own and you cant find suitable info (google) let me know its not that hard (sealing the water galleries is usually the problem but Holamar and other sealers make this pretty easy now).

Anyway I thought I'd give making a copper gasket a try, but just today I found a local importer who looks like they can get the gasket in, so I'm waiting to hear back from them to confirm it's the right one.
The gasket I got from Supercheap was a BL280S, and the one you linked to at rockauto.com is a BL280. Judging by the photo it's the right one.
So hopefully I can get a new gasket very soon, throw the engine back together, fix an exhaust leak and a couple of rust spots, register the thing, then use it as my daily driver while I pull the engine from the Suzuki to do some maintenance.

If my experience is anything to go by, you're best to find a 'friend' in Melbourne to acquire your parts as most of the warehouses are down there & the further North you are the more you pay for "freight" & it is often calculated X 2 so the retailer gets a cut on the freight as well as the part.

I've actually gotten a lot of stuff from the local Subaru dealer. Sometimes I get the old guy who's been there ages and knows how to look up a part number from 1984 and other times you get the young guy who doesn't know what a Sherpa or a parts "book" is. I usually come back when the old guy is on if thats the case. A lot of stuff was still available in Australia and a couple of gaskets got ordered ex Japan.
