Oh, they played that card, no mods for P platers eh? It's a bit rich when you can't get a factory exhaust system for a mighty boy anymore.
Well, you will need to change the back bit that you can see to be more "factory like" ie no chrome tip, small pipe. Being a ute you could have your "real" exhaust exit say 1" after the rear axel & then have a factory looking rear bit fit to keep the cops happy.
Unless they try & get under the mighty boy they won't see the mods. Just make sure the exhaust is nice & quiet.

yeh they did. which is a $320 fine. its so stupid tho. my freind got pulled up the next nyt by the same guy. for having 15inch ba stockies instead of 13s on a completely stock 80s deisal hiluxand because the face of the radio was to bright!!!! what's going on there. (dunno if u hav been out big hill way, but the policemans name was written in paint next to the "now leaving hoon capaital" coz he puts heaps of cars off)
as if p-platers arent targeted.

I've been out big hill way, and it's pretty big in a mighty boy!
Maybe it's time formal complaints are made against this copper, if he is really that bad & writing up fines for stupid things like " cd player too bright ". Depending on what the mod rules are for the hilux he may have been right with that one in regards to the tyres.

Sounds like an anally retentive "restoration is the only way" "mods are sacrilege" sort.
BTW surely without forced induction a MB wouldn't exceed the power to weight limits for provisional drivers.

We're aloud 260hp for our p's. Well In qld. But no turbos or mods. But if it were power to weight. Wouldnt you need 130hp out of a mb to be 260hp/tone ?

What a goose! I hope the guys with the demo car went from the RWC place to Vic Roads to clear it, then straight to a lawyer & filed a suit against the copper. I personally would have.
Reminders me of a time i got a defect on my torana when i was 19, i had a RWC done 2 days prior, and the certificate was still valid. I let the copper place it on my window, and as he was walking away feeling all high & mighty, i called him back, shown him the RWC & adv he can't defect a car that has a current RWC, and he had to rip it off & tear up the fine, in front of many people.
P platers under the new laws are not allowed any mods, which means if you can't get the stock part there are few car's P platers can actually drive.

So if i get pulled over and they see i have a f8b, i will get screwed over?
Not that any cop would be able to tell the diff between an f5a and f8b.
So extractors would be a no no?

The officer only needs to defect you on suspicion of illegal modifications and order a full inspection and you are then royally screwed. I was defected for having my front number plate held on with cable ties, however because I had illegal mods on my ute I needed to get them engineered before I could clear the original defect.
Completely my own fault for having illegal mods, and I had to wear the concequences.
Of course the zero tolerance to mods for P platers means that whatever you do will be illegal, engineers certificate or not.

Its seriously fu**ked though, you can get a stock supra with 220hp for your p's, but not aloud a 35hp mighty boy. If they get me i'll say okey, im just going to get something with 6 times as much power.

Really want to get them wondering what hit them? Buy Kubota & make the new 'sport' mini/micro tractor pulls - just can't take them on major highways.
Similar money will get you the new all terrain Segway.
Yes, I am being facetious/sarcastic.
How are provisional drivers going to get on if they go EPV - its a modification

At least Qld has seen the light some with new bike laws going from 250cc limit to power to weight for new riders. Some 250cc bikes go harder than larger bikes.

It's been power to weight for Learners and p's for motorbikes in NSW for ages.
They should do the same for Cars and be done with it.
I could have seen the natural flow if they did.
It is shit that you can't get past it even with an emgineers cert.

We have had power to weight restrictions of 165kw / 1000kg for a very long time here in vic, along with a list of "restricted vehicles" that you couldn't drive.
The new laws of no mods for P platers are on top of the existing list & power rules. Too bad if you have a F5a mighty boy, it craps itself, can't be rebuilt so you get a F8b cause it's a drop in replacement, rebuild it & drop it in. Your not getting enough of a power or size upgrade too be dangerous, but you technically can't drive it. Even tho under the old law of power to weight it's way under.
I'd hate to be a p plater right now.
In regards to the motor bikes, they have a restricted list now, and you can ride some bikes up to what is it, 400cc or so depending on it's power output, but some 250cc bikes are restricted, like the KR 250, tandem twin 2 stroke, one hellova fast bike, especially for a 250, i've ridden one.
