Welding up that sump is mission. Especially all the holes I've put in it. Got to grind it, re-weld it then leak test it.

Any idea of a real thin substance to check for leaks?

Coolant. Bright green so you can trace the leaks.

I've marked where the oil pickup sits. The top line is its highest point (where oil HAS to be)the bottom is the lowest point of the oil pick up.

Just need opinions on if it needs to be lowered or altered. I plan on filling the oil up to the start of the block.

id be moddifying the pick up so it sits parallel to the van.. that way u know u wont have trouble

If you plan on filling oil to the bottom of the block then expect it to leak! I would be inclined to make the sump flat and square at the bottom so you don't have to go deeper to get the extra capacity. Something like a G13BB sump.

Only issue with that is that my oil filter is in the way to make the whole sump flat.

I filled it to the top line and it was about 2.9 litres of oil. My current engine holds 3.2 litres including the oil filter. I'm kind of happy but perhaps I'll fill it a bit above the line to compensate for when its running.

It has quite a small oil filter about the size of a Z411 (200mls approx) so I'd have to say the engine isn't going to be pumping around much more than what the oil filter holds. But I don't know so information is good

Done the oil pick up today. Welds aren't anything flash but I pressure tested it with my 2psi of breath and fixed any leaks. It also touches the bottom of the sump and only has a small hole to pick up oil(which is bang on the bottom) so there should be no pickup issues.

The White box is where the oil pick up now sits:

Still has an old bracket on it that I didn't fully cut off to prevent more leaks:




Now to pressure test my sump and fix all those leaks, and of course make it look better as its shocking at the moment.

I was thinking of placing the sump seal area on a rubber mat of some sort maybe with some RTV sealant then spraying it with soapy water then blowing air through the sump plug hole.

If you've got an easier idea then PLEASE tell me lol.

Could someone also tell me the LIKELY colors off the power wire to the ECU. So far I've traced black with yellow strip and silver dot back to the fuse box which would have then lead to the ignition but i haven't got that part of the loom.

I setup a test run of the engine and she goes alright... She put oil all over the ground as well.

Where did all the oil come out from?

I ground my block to much where I put my gearbox adapters. Off to the Tig welders tomorrow to fix my stuff up.

u ground the block and its leakin oil.. that dont sound an easy fix.. more like new block..
