Depends on the offset of the rims mate. Check the rears, they'll either be scrubbing on the lip of the arch, or against the metal of the bump stop. Wear marks will be easy to see.
Scrubbing on the front will be either the lip of the arch or the inner guards.
Obviosuly with any larger wheels you'll need to roll the arches on all four corners.

I just put some 14 x 6 auscars on mine the offset is sweet they came of a sonarta tyres are 165/55 14 they are faulken duel compond $90 each. the wheel and tyre is about 25 mm bigger and the fronts stick out about 5 mm under the gaurds. only broblem i had was the bump stop and as everyone has said i just grinded it off no problems with scrubing at all now

okay, so it's possible the people at beaurepaires supplied me with a rim with an incorrect offset? it should be about +40 or something??
will check for wear marks too..

I got 165/55 R13's on my beast,
I don't think they're throwing the speedo out at all (maybe a insignificant bit) and they look tuff

I got 175/60 on 13x5.5 on my hatch, only the rear wheels scrub the lip of the bump stop on tight corners, will the structural integrity of the bump stop not be affected by shaving the side off???
I really wish 165/55 13"ers were available here!!!!

I have the same problem at the moment my dad thought it could ov been the shockies because they are old as and the front end slopes down i have 13"5 with the 155/70 tyres( i think) the backs are alright but the fronts rub on the guards as i turn corners to

So what is the ideal offset for wheels suitable for MBs?

Unfortunately due to the fact that the MB has different front and rear track there is no ideal single offset value.
Assuming a rim width of 5.5" then front would be 42+ and the rear about 30+.

just use the wheelcalc to find out what sizes are close and clearances needed.

my 2cents is that 175/50/13 is the best option
2nd - 165/55/13
3rd - 155/65/13
4th - 165/65/13
