My boss got an invite to race at Phillip Island on this same weekend, but between the two of us one of us has to be at work.

He is missing out  too bad for him!

OH, Also Brayden, What are thos mini hand held CB's the redliners have. Iknow last time i was in canberra some where better than others. I figure with christmas upon us my mother would love to get me some walkie-talkies. I just want to make sure they're the right ones.

I bought a set of Uniden radios and they were worse than rubbish, which was surprising given their cost and reputation.

I ended up buying a pair of DSE radios from Dick Smith and they've been great. Whatever you get, 5km range is sufficient.

Wicked! Great news man.

I have found the uniden handheld UHF's can pick up the signal transmitted from car or truck mounted UHF's from a fair distance, but handheld to handheld is pretty short distance unless you have LOS.

My G/f's bro has a car/ute mounted uniden UHF & 2 handhelds he bought as a package & we take them when we go away on weekends where there is more than 1 car going.

I should get myself one before the run i reckon. Maybe even one to mount in the ute lol. I know i've got an old AM cb around somewhere, i pulled it out of my panel van when i bought it. But it won't work on the same feq's as the new gear. :-(

The pair of Uniden handhelds I bought work fine until you get into a car. As soon as the door shuts they won't work even when you drive alongside the other unit on the freeway. Rediculous!

Somethings faulty there. The ones Owen has do work, but LOS you can only get 500-600mtrs, if there is a bend or tree's in the way you can get only 100mtrs. So much for the range they promote eh?

When choosing a hand held, get one that can take ready available aa/aaa batteries, not built in battery packs that only come with a 240volt recharge docking station. I've seen many handheld communications come to a halt do to flat battery packs.
Most of the Uniden ones come with a battery-pack, but also accept aa/aaa which is great.

I also have a 12v aa/aaa battery charger to keep spare batteries charged. Got it from Woolworths.
