Josh, if the Corolla has a ballast resistor you will need a GT40R the 'R' denotes that the coil is designed for resistor equipped ignitions which drop from 12V (13.8V) at start up down to about 7 or 9V while running. A GT40 coil is for ignitions without resistors - they run at 12(13.8V) full time.
Failure to use the correct coil will cause damage (potentially catastrophic) so call your local auto spares outlet with the exact model etc. They should be happy to tell you if you have a suitable part. I cannot be certain that the GT40R is the right coil for your Corolla as you have not given enough detail however if it had a can shaped coil it is likely ok

You mean GT40RT don't you? The Bosch coils come in GT40R and GT40RT and the RT is the one that is compatible with a ballast resistor. I am sure that this is the case as I have a GT40RT sitting in my garage which I was gonna put on the ute.
