Gday all. Has anyone bothered to try and make there f5a go harder than standard

If so, what would you guys recommend. Also at what revs should i be taking it to. Its a bit tired so i dont want to push it to the limit or anything, just what you would recommend to change gears at. Cheers.

I'd recommend changing gears when the engine " sounds right ". Drive it for an hour or so & you will find that sound out.
As for power improvement's for the F5A, i did a very simple one on mine, i took it out & fit a F8B 800cc engine.

You could turbo it, otherwise there isn't much you could do that would yield enough of a gain to be worth while. But have fun finding a turbo small enough to spool with the limited exhaust gas flow of the F5A!

Fritz is the only person I can recall trying to tackle upgrades to the F5A, so it might be worth checking what he uncovered.
Personally I think they're a lost cause when the F8B swap is so easy.

cheers guys, looks like ill have to find myself a donor suzuki hatch and do the f8b swap

I will also try asking Fritz what he did to his f5a,but the swap does sound more promising.

What state are you in man?
I know there used to be an Alto with a F8b in it sitting in a wreckers in Werribee, it's probably still there. No idea on condition but it should be re-buildable.
The swap is pretty easy & straight forward, just read the guide Brayden has put together on the topic & you should be right.
Cheers

you will feel a power increase with an engine recon and service (top and bottom end gaskets and FULL SERVICE) but like stated above it is a waste of time as i discover my self even with the F8B unless it is turboed honestly talking mate get youself a GTi motor- u will never regret it, they are cheap, stong, stock-incredable fast in a MB, but there is a lot more to it (brake, suspension upgrade) but its all worth it when your flying past almost everyother NA car and Laughing even some tuboed cars.

I'd like to see an MB with a G13B in it. Considering the engine and gearbox is about 3" too wide to fit in the engine bay!

Hope you don't mind me asking, but have you personally done this? And can you show pictures of the build/finished product? G13B's are a VERY VERY tight fit for the MB engine bay, would require chopping and custom engine mount fabrication etc. Then you would have to have it engineered. Other than standard, the F8B is the only engine that fits in with ease and I would love to see how you have done your G13B conversion.

Do you have experience with it? Have you seen it/have proof of it?

I'm being serious. I don't think it is that hard to answer...
Fact of the matter is, G13B and matching box are simply too big for a MB engine bay. You would need to do extencive body mods to get it in there, and then make engine mounts to suit and find a way to attach them to your now widened engine bay. Then you would need to upgrade breaks and suspension to even think of concidering to take it to an engineer and then, once there, you woud probably have a new arsehole ripped for you about why the car will never be able to be driven on the road legally.
Just my opinion, but unless you could find the dodgiest of dodgy engineers, you have no hope!
I have seen (kinda) an MB with G13A (or BA, can't recall) but no detailed shots and the guy never have any info on it. He was an engineer and build and I assume complied it all himself.

To put in simply, I've seen too many people TALK about all sorts of crazy engines in MightyBoys, but there's rarely any PROOF to show of anything being engineered and road registered.
It is usually another one of those "my brother's mate's cousin had one" kinda things.

well im guilty of that. i told everyone that i was going to do a gti turbo swift conversion. i told everyone on fastfours.com that i was goin to chop it rto get 17's under it. HA. i did actually find an engineer that would pass the 1.3L. but money stopped me in my tracks.
though their is a very really chance of a 1L charde conversion.
