distributor problem.

Hey guys, im pretty new to this whole car scene, and im not sure if this is a big problem or not, but here goes.
I bought a 1984 supercarry (high roof) the other day and it was driving fine on the way home but when i got it home and came back 2 or so hours later, it wasn't starting.
I figured out that it's not sparking, it's turning over though.
I've replaced the coil and the ignition leads in it, but it still doesn't want to spark.
I've been getting suggestions that it's the distributor and/or cap, but im really not sure.
I called a mobile mechanic to come out this week, but it would be nice if i could fix the problem myself or with a friend so i don't have to fork out $10000000 to them.

What do you guys think? I need help fast!

nah, its before the spark plugs,
i take the ignition cord out of the plug and chuck an allen key in it and put it next to a bolt to check if its sparking.
but its not
so i think somethings wrong before the leads.

hav you tried taking off the distributer cap and cleaning the points?

I had a friend over who works with cars, and he was fiddling around with the distributor and such.
So im not sure what he has done, if he cleaned the points out or not.

yeh well thats what my sierra use. even if thers just a bit of moisture under the cap. clean the rotor, contacts and make sure the little carbon brush is springing out in the cap. if it was going and then just didnt start then it shouldnt be much of a prob. ive got ars going that have been sitting for over twenty years going again. so a couple of hours is nothing big. haha

yeh, im actually pretty sure my sierra well lj81 has the same motor. and its prob was that the spring wasnt pushing the carbon tip out in the distributer cap. so it was winding over, but couldnt start. i just pulld it out, cleaned it. and put it back in

ive got a 4 cylinder 1000cc 5 speed manual.
i think my mate said f10a? or something im not sure.
but yeah.

the carby is on its side. the air come from the side rather ther top

they are bloody tiny too.
which is good, so when something goes wrong, it's not too hard to find.
usually, anyways.
hahaha.
