I thought there was a thread about this a while ago, but I can't find it.
Wanted to know if anyone knows if the Jap Spec alto engines are interchangeable with gearboxes.
I have an F5B turbo with 4WD gearbox and differential.
I wanted to get rid of the F5B and change it over with an F6A, K6A or F6B.
Trouble I have is the gearbox. Wanting to retain my AWD, if I change the gearbox, I'll have to find a matching diff to match the gearbox so my ratios compatible.
Finding it hard to source a gearbox and diff, but can find engines with looms, dash and computer - pretty much everything I need to make the change.
However, I would need the F5B turbo gearbox to match the pattern from a F6A/K6A/F6B.
Stuck trying to find a halfcut, and the problem with a halfcut, is you need to importer to have the differential as well. I've found that often they leave this behind.

Japanese F series 3 cylinder gearboxes have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, but the size of the flywheel etc may not always match up. If you're after an answer with 100% certainty that X motor will bolt to Y gearbox I don't think you'll find it. There are just so many subtle nuances with these cars that you can rarely get absolute certainty.

That being said I would be pretty confident that an F6A/B would hitch up to your current box. The question is why would you want to? The 100cc difference wouldn't make a world of difference.
