Check the timing belt isn't advanced a tooth. That will cause overheating. Might also want to look at the water pump and make sure the heat gasket isn't leaking.

Is your fan working, or possibly blowing backwards (if you have an aftermarket fan this could be possible)

Is the system losing or ejecting any fluid?

If the water pump has been replaced and the overheating problem started after that, then there is a good chance the timing belt is out and causing the overheating.

What is the technical explanation for that phenomenon?

Timing advanced causes pinging, pinging causes overheating. You would no doubt recall my overheating problem way back on the Sydney cruise. That was caused by the belt being advanced a tooth after I replaced the water pump.

Take off the timing belt cover and check that the belt is set correctly. At TDC the keyway on the crank and marking on the cam should line up with two top marks on the back of the timing cover.

Every boy owner has been down the overheating road,( several times for me) I stop at the same garage every morning to get the paper on the way to work and leave the car ideling while I duck in. On the rare occasion that I did,nt, the boy,s thermostat would,nt open. :bashhead: The original thermostat has what looks to be a small release valve on the top. The one I bought did,nt. :x Put the old one back in & no more problems. Is,nt it strange how we allways love the tempremental ones.

I was once told by a radiator shop dude that they drill small holes in thermostats.
