G'day

I just priced a clutch kit for my 1999 Carry and was quoted $720rrp but they will do it for $500!
I was shocked as other Suzuki clutch kits are about $130.
Does anybody know of an equivalent kit that will fit my van?

Regards
Chris

I am assuming that is a genuine Suzuki clutch? Exedy and Valeo both do clutch kits to suit your Carry (same as Sierra and Jimny) and you should be able to get the kit for under $200, or a touch more if you want heavy duty.

G'day

Thanks for that info. The local spare sparts shops couldn't find a listing and had to ring up for a price. I will try again today and let you know how I get on.

G'day

Just went to Supercheap and was quoted $380 plus $50 freight for the Exedy clutch kit. It was the only one listed.

I don't know about that one from suzistore.
The one they list is $432.19:

That's supercheap for you. Try going directly through a clutch/transmission specialist.

G'day
An update on my slipping clutch.
I found an ebay shop that would do it for $300 plus $40 freight.
I printed the reply and showed it to a couple of local spare parts places. One could nearly match it so I gave them my business. I got an Exedy kit for $350 delivered.

Now what was interesting was when I went to fit it.
The original problem was the clutch slipping mostly early in the morning.
When I pulled the gearbox out I found the thrust bearing was very tight on the tube it was supposed to slide on. The grease had dried out and obviously was very stiff until the mechanicals warmed up.
And I thought my ratbag driving habits were the cause of the failure.

The cluch plate was stuffed so I cleaned it all up, put the kit in with good grease and it now works well.
I would recommend anyone with a 10 year old van that has not had the clutch replaced yet should check their thrust bearing before winter.
It may save you a lot of money.
