Hi Im finally cashed up enough to replace that grinding cv, I have decided to do it my self, shouldnt be hard if i rebuilt the engine.
They dont cost much so i will just do both sides in and out.
Someone showed me these on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-CV-JOINT-FOR ... dZViewItem

Is this the right one for my 83 hatch ?
I supose i just need 2 of them but where do i get the inners or would they not need replacing ?

you won't know if your inners need replacing until you take them apart and look for wear on the races.....generally though they don't need replacing as they don't work on such a great range of angles as the outers so they are under less stress.

look at this forum topic on how to dissassemble;

i've just taken the drive shafts off my donor 83 hatch for my mightyboy as they were in perfect condition...they appeared to be identical to the mb ones so you should be able to buy those ones off ebay.

well it turned out that the noise was the wheel bearing, seriously i dont think it would be a month before my wheel fell off :?

Anyway I put the new cv outers on after a few tries i decided to grind the top off so i could hit the shaft out. It worked a treat 8) Then i went to work on the wheel bearings i Just tapped out the old bearings and and sorta pressed it all together using a bench vice and some sockets + GREESE.

That's too much money you can buy a complete drive shaft with both joints for about $120. You get new boots also with this, if you come back later it costs nearly as much to add the inner boot on.
